SNAPSHOT: Sarah & Nick’s Intimate Prince Edward County Wedding

Untitled photo

There were so many elements of this wedding that I was looking forward to: from the small nature of this wedding, to the Airbnb venue overlooking Lake Ontario, to the wine tasting and portraits at Three Dog Winery. Both Sarah and Nick were very clear with me from the beginning with what they were hoping to have captured throughout the day: relaxed photos of the two of them with their closest loved ones enjoying the day.

Being a Prince Edward County photographer allows you to meet such amazing people from all over. In the case of Sarah and Nick, neither them or their guests are from PEC. Some of Nick’s family traveled from traditional Innu lands in what most Canadians would consider the province of Québec. I felt incredibly lucky that Nick and his family took the time to discuss some of what they were wearing and include a number of Innu elements into the wedding day; these moments of teaching and learning are a privilege as a settler.

I was quickly and warmly welcomed by family and friends upon my arrival and moved around their massive Airbnb rental, snapping shots of Sarah and her crew downstairs and Nick and his entourage upstairs. There was plenty of natural light given how hot and sunny it was, so there was no need for flash photography indoors.

Their ceremony site was behind the house and the view was stunning. The elevation along highway 49 allows for some great vantage points of the region; it’s hard not to feel connected to the land and water looking outward. Once Nick was in position, Sarah emerged with her daughter by her side and to a tune performed by her dad on the guitar. The smile on Nick’s face said it all.

Their ceremony itself consisted of the exchanging of vows and not only the sharing of rings, but also the sharing of a bracelet with Sarah (and Nick’s!) daughter to commit to being a family unit. Let’s just say this is the moment that I started crying.

After the ceremony guests ducked inside to cool down with air conditioning before we quickly snapped some group shots on the lawn. Many were eager to get out of their hot formal wear and into something more comfortable before heading off to the winery for a wine tasting and to celebrate!

We took couples portraits shortly after arriving on the grounds of the winery, using the many rustic elements and vines at our disposal. The session was long enough to end the day with some lovely snaps of the two (and three!) of them, but we agreed to not stay out too long and to rejoin the guests.

I stuck around for a little while as folks sipped on wine and ate some amazing wood-fired pizzas and cheese boards. Nick, Sarah and their guests were in good spirits as I departed and I know that celebrations continued well after. I am left with such lovely memories of the day and hope that I get to cross paths with this beautiful family again down the road; nothing but the best of wishes to them.
