SNAPSHOT: Sam & Sam’s engagement photoshoot at Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area

Sam squared (haha…) were the big winners of my engagement photoshoot giveaway last month. Bride-to-be-Sam and I were in regular communication about dates and visions for the session. We decided that fall would be a lovely time for it to happen and I suggested a local spot to embrace all of the colours on display. While not from Picton or PEC themselves, they were happy to drive in early on Sunday from the Kingston area to catch some beautiful morning county light. It was no surprise that we were the first ones in the parking lot.

The Conservation Area is absolutely stunning. Being pretty new to Prince Edward County myself, I had not had the chance to explore it fully myself before the shoot. I had been to a wedding as a guest one fall at a nearby wedding venue called 100 Acre Wood, so I knew that the trees would be beautiful this time of year. Macaulay Mountain has a little pond that you can walk around and a number of trails to suit all types of walkers and hikers. It did not disappoint as location for a photoshoot.

The two of them had been pretty open with me about the fact that photoshoots are not really their thing and that they had not had a formal photo session together before. If they hadn’t told me that, I would not have known. Not only did they look great in the frame, but they felt comfortable taking directions and were willing to try just about anything. We walked the trails together, sat on benches, danced to imaginary songs and discovered beautiful old buildings tucked away out of sight. We chatted about work, about life and about their ever-evolving wedding plans. I felt as though I was among friends, not just a couple who I had known for the better part of an hour.

This was my first foray into the giveaway game on Instagram. I was hoping that it would help get word out that there was a new wedding photographer in town; in this regard, I do think it was successful. No doubt there were others who wished that they had won the photoshoot, but the Sams were so grateful and kind, and I could not be happier that it was them. I hope that we cross paths again soon!
